I don't really have any negatives to state about it, from my usage. If you're looking for a simple, straightforward, no frills, nice and fast and easy to use search application for your system as an alternative to more clunky programs, or the mess of a terminal, Catfish might be up your alley. In my experiences, because it uses find and locate in the background, its extremely efficient at finding files in the blink of an eye, without using much in the way of resources, slowing down your system in the process.Įven doing a search simply for 'conf' on my laptop, which produced over 4000 results in less than 30 seconds, didn't slow it down whatsoever while Spotify, Firefox, LibreOfice, and a bunch of other things on the go all at once were all continuing without a hiccup. Here you need to install build tools, build-time dependencies and so on. If the program is simple, you can compile it without checkinstall and place it in your home-folder on leave it in its source code directory. Your home folder is like your C:/Username/ directory in Windows, with your documents, downloads, pictures etc. Show Hidden Files/Folders This one is obvious. Generally developers have better things to do than posting ugly screenshots of Windows 8. View > Panels > Terminal Resize the terminal to fit as you desire, and now have easy access if ever needed 4. I just realized that github itself is quite old (and stagnated) now. The Double Commander project is older than github. One of the things that I love most about Catfish, is simply how fast it is. The project might still be active, but the website is stagnating.
